Effortless Ways to Create a Productive Home Office

Source: Trend Book

For many people, going to the office was a part of their daily routine. However, since the outbreak of the pandemic, many have started working from home. Consequently, the closure of offices and the need to set up a working station at home has impacted how people view their houses and layout. If you work from home, taking regular breaks and making a to-do list to boost your concentration is essential and equally important to your surroundings. Your environment should allow you to relax while being productive and motivated throughout the day. This is where an interior designer can help you create an aesthetic and functional home office.

Follow our five tips for a successful home office setup:

  1. Location: It's important to have a private workspace in your home. Choose a quiet location that won't interfere with your personal life. Spending all day in the same room where you work can make it difficult to relax and unwind, as it will constantly remind you of your workload and stress. If you don't have a spare room, you can get creative and set up a small workstation that you can conceal.

2. Use Bespoke Cabinetry: Bespoke joinery plays a crucial role in creating a unique, practical, and aesthetically pleasing design. Pre-made furniture is usually available in only one size, and even a difference of just 1cm can be frustrating. On the other hand, custom-made furniture will fit your space perfectly and provide the necessary features tailored to your needs, such as built-in sockets, adjustable shelves, concealed task lights, storage space and more

3. Get the Right Desk and Chair: To prevent back and neck problems, investing in a good desk and chair is vital. When choosing a desk, consider the size of the space you need for your computer, notepad, books, and other materials. For sufficient space to store your belongings and work materials and enough space to rest your arms, you need a surface that is approximately 75 x 120-150 cm in length. The recommended depth for your desk is at least 80-100 cm, while the standard desk height is about 75 cm. When it comes to choosing the right chair, the seat should be 41-45 cm in height and preferably have an ergonomic design. Choosing a chair with adjustable armrests for both height and sideways movement is also advisable to ensure maximum comfort. Also, remember to buy a chair with breathable fabric padding and lumbar support for those long days.

4. Think About the Lighting: It is essential to have proper lighting in your office space to avoid discomfort. You don't want to strain your eyes on bright sunny days or struggle to see your screen at night. Position your desk near a window to allow natural light to flow in, but ensure you have window coverings in place to filter sunlight appropriately. Choose a combination of ambient, accent, and task lighting, such as a large pendant lamp, a desk lamp, and additional light sources to create an optimal lighting setup.

5. Proper Equipment: Certain equipment can significantly improve your work-from-home experience, even if it's unrelated to interior design. For instance, having a second screen can make it easier to multitask and complete various tasks efficiently. Additionally, organizing your desk with office supplies and stationery can help you maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
